POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF THE EL NIÑO PHENOMENON ON INFLATION IN THE TALAUD ISLANDS REGENCY

Assistant I for Government Administration and People’s Welfare, Daud Malensang, together with the Head of BPS-Statistics Talaud Regency, Ryko Aprianto Puasa, conducted coordination and discussions on the region’s socio-economic conditions and economic development. The discussion also highlighted the potential impacts of the El Niño phenomenon on the agricultural and plantation sectors, particularly nutmeg and clove commodities, which are among the sources of income for farming households. Drier weather conditions may affect production, household income, food availability, and commodity price developments. Therefore, monitoring weather conditions, production, supply, and price movements of strategic commodities is essential as a precautionary measure. Synergy among the local government, BPS-Statistics Indonesia, farmers, business actors, and other stakeholders is needed to support the availability of comprehensive data and information in maintaining economic stability and the purchasing power of the people in the Talaud Islands Regency.
